Welcome!
We are a self-sustaining nonprofit that through the food rescue process are able to save wholesome food that would otherwise go to waste from places like grocery stores, restaurants, and dining facilities and get it to those in need. It is a great way to cut down on food waste and help people at the same time. We do not receive government support or grants for our work; we are all volunteers.
Porchlight Community has been serving San Diego with dignity since 2016
We are a grassroots community of volunteers who rescue food and re-distribute it to our neighbors. It started in 2016 by a single parent with the support of her like-minded neighbors to help provide a dignified experience so that others can get the help they deserve.
From our humble beginnings of porches and driveways to our small Kearny-Mesa office, our dual food rescue and food pantry program offers a market-style shopping experience and emergency food baskets.
